Little Rock, Big Fun: Best Things to Do This Weekend in Arkansas

When the weekend comes you want to relax, explore, do all the things you couldn’t find

time to do during your busy week.

Little Rock, Arkansas, is a great place to get out and about during your reprieve from work thanks to the many local attractions it offers.

As you look at Little Rock houses for sale, check out these fun things to do on the weekend.

Take the bridge

If you’re looking to get fresh air during your time off, travel along the Big Dam Bridge, the longest pedestrian and bicycle bridge in the country.

Big Dam connects 20 miles of riverside trails and 70,000 acres of parks.

There are also events held here, like the Big Dam Bridge 100 Bicycle tour where thousands of cyclists participate.

Discover things at the museum

The Museum of Discovery is a history and natural science museum that’ll provide you with hours of fun.

It has over 14,000 historical and cultural artifacts, and insects and animals.

There are interactive exhibits, educational programs and, if you’ve got a little one with a birthday coming up, a venue that can be rented.

Learn the ins and outs of distilling

Rock Town Distillery is a craft artisan distillery downtown that uses locally-grown grains to win awards with its spirits.

You can watch the process from start to finish through a tour, then kick back and enjoy a sip of what you’ve just seen.

Purse-sue new knowledge

A unique place to gather new knowledge is the ESSE Purse Museum, devoted to the history of the handbag.

It covers the history of this accessory from 1900 to 1999, exploring not only purses but the women who carried them.

Walk through history

The Historic Arkansas Museum is a half-block of gorgeous restored homes that also contains gallery spaces.

This includes the Hinderliter House, what was once the capitol building of the state before the construction of the Old State House.

Go to a famed high school

In 1957 the Little Rock Nine became some of the first African-American teenagers to attend a mixed-race high school.

This occurred during the Civil Rights Movement and proved to be a pivotal moment. The National Guard was called in to escort the kids to their classrooms.

Today you can visit the high school, which has been converted into a museum. The site has preserved the history and helps promote tolerance and diversity in the present-day.

Hop aboard a streetcar

The yellow and red Metro Streetcar is one of the most visible and notable attractions in the city.

What began as an actual railway system in the 1800s is now a heritage streetcar system riders can embark on – for free!

Explore River Market

This market is so much more than its namesake. This district is filled with everything from historic homes to boutiques, nature walks to art galleries.

You’ll find a farmers market in the summer, carolers in the winter, and a jazz-centric event in the spring.  Check more articles on Magpalace.
